A Comet Cocktail, and Thoughts on Comets, Shooting Stars and Super Moons

Hello and welcome back to The Stone Soup Cook! Glad you’re here.

Today, I’m going to take a little departure from my recent musings on home-keeping and house-keeping to talk about something completely different–like astronomically different! Well–that and cocktails. But…duh.

I hope all of you have had a chance to get outside and see the stunning Comet A3 that’s visible in the western sky after dark. I took the featured picture last night with my iPhone–no special equipment. It’s visible as an identifiable smudge with the naked eye, but pretty great with binoculars and it really is something to see!

We were also treated to a super-moon last night, which competed with the comet, but was still quite a sight! And later this month, we will be treated to the Orionids, which, if you live in a place with dark skies should be a good show on October 21st, but visible through the end of the month.

And what better way to celebrate all these astronomical sensations than with a cocktail?!

Part ginger beer, part gin, part ginger liqueur, part lime juice and part Prosecco, I call this Cosmic Nerd Fizz. It’s frizzly and sparkly and with the added ginger liqueur, has the sort of deep ginger flavors that make you think about the universe and eternity. Enjoy while star-gazing, preferably with someone you love.

Peace, love and good food,

Keri
