Hello! and welcome back to The Stone Soup Cook! I’m glad you’re here.
I’m guessing that everyone of you out there can relate to the evolving feelings I have about birthdays. As a child, they were so exciting I could hardly contain myself! But the older I get, the more mellow my feelings about them get. I do still like to be remembered, and there are friends and family I still enjoy exchanging gifts with. However, nowadays, the food and companionship around a birthday tend to overshadow the gift.
As luck would have it, I have a total of five friends and family members who all celebrate their birthdays in July–it’s a busy month! So this week, I thought I’d feature the meal I made for a very dear friend for his birthday recently. This menu features an abundance of fresh, farmer’s market produce in interesting ways, and captures a “carpe diem” spirit of the celebration through the food.
So, let’s get cooking!
The first course was this luscious arugula, tomato and mozzarella salad:

Tune in tomorrow for part 2 of this special birthday menu!
Until then,
Peace, love and good food,
Keri
