Low-Sodium Grilled Steak

pinit

This is a recipe I developed while exploring options for a low-sodium diet, and it’s a keeper. This recipe does include some salt, but it comes by way of low-sodium soy sauce, which is a great ingredient for anyone trying to cut down on their sodium intake to have in their arsenal–it packs a lot of flavor with far less salt than other additives. And it’s as simple a recipe as you’ll ever find: lime juice, low-sodium soy sauce, smoked paprika, a steak and a grill. That’s it. Finished. Finito!

Low-Sodium Grilled Steak

Ingredients

Instructions

  1. Assemble your ingredients.

  1. In a small prep bowl. combine the lime juice and the soy sauce and mix well. Spoon about a tbsp of the mixture over top of each of the steaks and then cover them in saran wrap and place in the fridge. After about an hour, flip the steaks and spoon another tbsp over top of each steak. Return to the fridge.

  1. About 30 minutes before you plan to grill, remove steaks from the fridge and let them sit at room temperature to take the chill off them.

  1. Pre-heat grill to medium-high. Grill the steaks on one side for about 2 minutes, flip and grill the other side. Continue cooking until they reach your desired doneness--I find that a total of 8 minutes is about a medium, which is just the way I like them. On the last flip, sprinkle steak with the smoked paprika.

  1. Remove steaks and let rest under an aluminum foil tent for about 5 minutes. Serve with roasted potatoes and seasonal vegetables.

Note

The classic wine pairing with steak is cabernet sauvignon, which is delicious, but try it with a beautiful zinfandel--you may find a new favorite!
